What supplies do they use?

In order for your keepsake to last for generations, your oil painting will be on a gallery-wrapped linen canvas with museum quality paints. It will be varnished for protection.

Your watercolor works will be painted on the best available cotton paper. The paint and the ink will be of premium quality pigments (archival, lightfast, and acid free). It can be custom framed upon request.

I missed my chance! I’m already married.

You can still commission a custom work of art to hang in your home! Fill out the Contact form requesting the commission. They’ll get in touch, and you’ll have a phone call or video session to hash out your vision for the piece and give you a custom quote. Once they create an online workspace for you, you will upload your favorite high quality photograph(s) from your wedding, and then they can create your piece.

How much does live wedding painting cost?

The prices are customized for each client. You can hire both wedding painters in one package starting at $2000. Your custom quote can vary based on services chosen, canvas size, travel fees, etc. Read this page for more information: Investment

Where are the sisters located?

Jessica lives in Ashland, Missouri; Sarah lives in Columbia, Missouri.

How far will they travel to paint our wedding?

Anywhere! The sisters love to travel. Let them know about your location when you submit the contact form, so they can create a custom travel quote.

What happens after I submit my inquiry?

Once the sisters confirm calendar availability, you will have a phone call or video chat from them so they can find out more information about your wedding and what your vision is for your painting. After you have chosen your preferred customization, you will receive a contract and invoice with a retainer of 25%. When the retainer is received, your date will be secured on the calendar.

We will only be at the ceremony for a short while. Can they still paint it?

Yes! The sisters can take photos during the ceremony and paint during the reception. If, for some reason, that can’t happen, then they can finish the paintings from the photographs at their studio.

Do they need any special accommodations at the venue?

They need a 4″x8″ space set apart for them, where they can put a table and two chairs. Also, if possible, an outlet for their lamps and devices, and a sink to pour paintwater and rinse brushes. Sarah will need a enough room for traffic, so people can stand for photos or watch her work. Jessica will need to be situated with her standing easel in a 4″x4″place where she can get an ideal view of the venue.

Will I get to bring my painting home at the end of the night?

Sarah will paint as many guest portraits as she can which they can take home as they leave that night. If you requested extra portraits, then she will need additional studio time to complete them.

Your oil painting will be taken back to Jessica’s studio where it may take up to 4-8 weeks for it to be perfected and varnished.

How long will it take for my artwork to be completed?

For custom commissions and your live oil painting, it will take 4-8 weeks for a piece to be completed, not including shipping. During busier seasons, you may need to allow for more time.

As for the watercolor guest portraits, Sarah is able to paint between 5-10 people per hour.

How will I get my artwork when it is finished?

If you’re local to Columbia or Ashland, MO, it can be picked up from the studio or the artist will hand deliver the artwork. Otherwise, it will be packaged with care, insured, and shipped.

We have a favorite pet that we would like to include in the painting.

They LOVE animals and would be happy to include your furry (or not) friend! If your pet will not be at the wedding, you will need to send the sisters a few high-quality (i.e. not blurry, color-true) reference photos to work with.

Our loved one died before they could see us get married. Can we add them to the painting?

Of course! It’s your wedding painting, and the sisters specialize in customizing. It’s an honor to be requested to memorialize someone in art. They will will need a few high quality (not blurry, color-true) photos for them to work from.

What about theme weddings? Can they paint us in a fantasy/anime/gothic setting?

Yes! The Silvey sisters are professionals, and can paint from imagination, or from any quality reference photo you like. Jessica can reimagine your wedding into your fantastic setting, while Sarah can do your guest portraits on-theme.

Will you paint a custom commission of non-wedding subjects?

Yes, they are currently taking studio commissions! Fill out the Contact form requesting the commission. They’ll get in touch, and you’ll have a phone call or video session to hash out your vision for the piece and give you a custom quote. Once they create an online workspace for you, you will upload your favorite high quality photograph(s), and then they can create your custom work of art. Please note: if you want to order commissions in time for Christmas, please allow plenty of time. It’s best to request them in early fall. They are limited on how many orders they can take, as these are custom works which can take 4-8 weeks to complete, not including shipping. Early orders will be prioritized. See the Commissions page for examples of work.

Why do I need paintings when I already have a photographer?

Photographs are art too! But paintings have a different feel and impact when hanging in your home. Painting takes time and skill to create, and each painting is unique. Paintings can enhance and accentuate what was special about your day: the glow of the dress, the sparkle in your beloved’s eyes, the fun and movement on the dance floor.

Even more than that, having a live painter at your event is entertainment, a conversation piece for your guests. Everyone can enjoy watching the painting come to life. And when the celebration ends, when all of the flowers and treats are put away, you will have something real you can look at every day, a one-of-a-kind keepsake to remember your wedding by.
